One thing I love - day or night, any time of year - is a solid red lipstick. Red lipstick always gives me an extra boost of confidence and makes me feel a little more glamorous. I love how it is strong and empowering, yet simultaneously remains sultry and feminine. I've come across many women who have told me that they don't look good in red lipstick, or don't feel comfortable wearing it. I tell them that the problem isn't with red lipstick itself, but with finding the right shade and tone. Even now, while I have many, many reds that I love and that I know look flattering on me, I am constantly searching for my perfect shade. So, when I found this Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Ultra Lipstick in Rouge in the bottom of a swag bag I received at a party, I was excited to test it out. Keep reading for details!
The Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Ultra Lipsticks contain Volulip, the brand's signature compound that claims to plump and define lips. As the name suggests, they also contain Ceramide Triple Complex, to strengthen and re-texturize the skin's appearance. These ingredients are geared more towards older women (as is most of the Elizabeth Arden brand), who may have lost fullness in the lips and definition in the lip line.
My lips looked slightly bigger when wearing the Ceramide Ultra Lipstick, but my lips are rather full to begin with, and red always makes them appear larger. I wouldn't say that this product gives the lip line any definition. Worn without a lip liner, the lipstick moved around and smeared outside of the lip line. I found myself constantly needing to look in a mirror and touch up. In my opinion, the problem lies within the moisturizing formula. It is so moisturizing, that it is slippery and difficult to wear.
But don't discount this lipstick just yet. The one thing that redeems the product is how ridiculously gorgeous the color is. Rouge is a traditional, bright blue-based red. This type of red is flattering on a wide range of skin tones. It gives a classic, Old Hollywood vibe - something I just love. Whenever I've worn Rouge, I've gotten tons of compliments, from friends to the woman working at my local salad shop. When a stranger compliments your lipstick, that's when you know it's real.
The second thing that makes this lipstick worth checking out is the beautiful, ornate gold packaging. The cylindrical tube is heavy and feels expensive. It has raised rectangles arranged in an art-deco-like style. When you're paying top dollar for a lipstick, part of what you're paying for is the packaging. This packaging is definitely worth the price.
I think the Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Ultra Lipstick in Rouge is worth checking out if you're a red lip lover, like I am. It's not the best red lipstick I've ever used, but it does have it's benefits. For more information, or to purchase, click here.
