I think I say this every time I blog about lipstick, but lipstick is my all time favorite makeup product. There is something about lipstick that makes me feel pulled together, feminine, and confident. So, while I already have dozens and dozens of lipsticks that I love and wear all the time, I'm constantly looking out for new shades and formulations.
In general, I don't buy a lot of lipstick from the drugstore because I haven't been too impressed with past purchases. It takes a lot for a drugstore lipstick to grab my attention. That's why it's a pretty big deal that I picked up not one, but four of the new shades of the Maybelline Creamy Matte Lipsticks. Continue reading for photos and swatches!
The Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lipsticks were released about a year ago as a new permanent range, and I did pick up a few shades from that original line. I liked those colors just fine, but I didn't think that they were anything special. When I saw that Maybelline was released ten new shades for summer (which I believe will be permanent), I couldn't resist. The colors looked too beautiful and flattering to pass up.
The Creamy Matte Lipsticks come packaged in rectangular casing with silver hardware. The caps are a frosted plum shade. I think that the packaging is simple and classy. These lipsticks do not claim to be longwearing, despite being matte. They also are not completely matte. While they do not have any gloss or shine, they do retain some moisture. I think this makes them more comfortable to wear. If you're looking for a lipstick that looks dry and painted on, this product is not for you.
Clay Crush: This is by far my favorite shade. It is peachy brown color with rose undertones, and would be flattering many different skin tones. Clay Crush glides on in the most buttery way and is extremely easy to apply.
Nude Nuance: Like Clay Crush, Nude Nuance is super creamy, and applies and wears beautifully. It is a deep spice brown color with strong rose undertones. It is quite dark, and I think I will get more wear out of this in Fall.
All Fired Up: This is my least favorite shade. It felt very dry and tugged at my lips when I was applying it. I think this would be impossible to wear without a lip liner because it goes on so unevenly. The color is a shocking pinky coral. It's not extremely flattering. I'm not giving up on this just yet, but my hopes for this shade are very low.
Rich Ruby: This is another favorite of mine, mainly because this is my favorite shade of red. It is a bright brick red with subtle blue undertones. This is a classic "Old Hollywood" type of red. It was not as creamy as Clay Crush and Nude Nuance, but not as tough and dry as All Fired Up. The consistency of this is the closest to a traditional matte formula.
The Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lipsticks each contain .15 oz. of product and retail for $7.99. Click here to purchase. Overall, I do really like this product. I recommend checking out Clay Crush and Rich Ruby!
